This is the first part of the Percy Jackson Series. The next part of this series is Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters. The story is Percy Jackson will find that he is the son of a God named Poseidon, the god of the seas. The lightning bolt of Zeus has been stolen by someone. Now the entire God community suspects Percy as the thief.

Now, this is an overview of the entire book. If you want to read the whole story, then you have to read the book and enjoy the story. Now without wasting any more words, let’s start the summary. Hope you like it !!!

The entire story is narrated by Percy Jackson. Actually, in this book Percy Jackson told how he discovered his true identity and how this new discovery had shaped his future. So, Percy Jackson was a twelve-year-old boy who was diagnosed with dyslexia and ADHD, basically, he couldn’t read and write properly due to some disabilities of his brain. He had a friend Grover Underwood. Both were the besties. So, one day on a trip to a local museum, one of the chaperones Mrs. Dodds took him to a room and suddenly turned into a Fury. It almost killed Percy and in that exact time, his favorite teacher Mr. Brunner entered and somehow rescued him from that thing. By the way, let me tell you that Mr. Brunner was a handicapped person who couldn’t walk so he always used a wheelchair. After that Fury was gone Percy panicked like hell. Mr. Brunner then gave Percy a small pen and told him to use that very carefully. Later Percy came to know that it was a pen cum magical sword.

After school was over, Percy went to his home and packed for his vacation. However, he and his mother, Sally went to Long Island along with his friend Grover. Now let me tell you a brief family background of Percy. Percy’s family was really mysterious. His mother married a man named Ben who didn’t even care whether they live or die. Ben was Percy’s stepfather. But still, they lived with him. Sometimes, Percy asked his mother why they were compromising so much with him. Sally always gave the same answer, Percy you would never understand how he was helping us. So, in one word Percy was really frustrated with his family.

Now back to that trip. During their camping, at midnight, Grover sensed that they were in danger. Without wasting any time, Sally started to drive. On their way, they were ambushed by a Minotaur. Minotaur is actually a mythical creature found in Greek mythology, who has a body of a man with the head and tail of a bull. However, it attacked them. It was that time when Grover revealed that actually he was a Satyr, i.e, he was a human with the legs of a goat. Basically, he was a combination of a human and a goat. Yeah!!! That’s mythology guys. In mythology, anything can happen. However, Grover fainted and the Minotaur caught Sally and made her disappear. Out of rage, Percy killed that Minotaur with its own horns. Then he grabbed Grover’s fainted body and dragged him to a place called Camp Half-Blood. As he entered the camp with Grover’s body, he became unconscious too.

After three days Percy woke up from his slumber and found that he was in a place called Camp Half-Blood. This is not the part he freaked out. The part where he freaked out was when Grover showed his real form, i.e, his Satyr form. He freaked out like hell. Later he also came to know that actually he was not a human he was half human and half god. In one word, he was a demi-god. His father was the Lord of the Seas, Poseidon. In Greek mythology, Poseidon is one of the three main deities of Greek. The others are Zeus, the king of Olympus and Hades, the king of the Underworld. As the days passed, he started to get settled in this camp life. There he met many others like him, like, Luke Castellan, Annabeth Chase and many more. There he met Mr. Brunner and was shocked because Mr. Brunner was actually a Chiron, i.e, he was a half-human and half-horse. There he also played a game called Capture the Flag. On that night of that game, everybody was celebrating the arrival of Percy Jackson in that camp. Suddenly, the campfire exploded and Hades came out of it and threatened Percy that if he didn’t return the lightning bolt that he had stolen from Zeus, he would kill his mother. Actually, it was Hades who sent that Minotaur to capture Percy instead that Minotaur had captured his mother. However, Chiron saved them from Hades at that time.

It's funny how humans can wrap their mind around things and fit them into their version of reality

Later Chiron explained everything to Percy about how he got involved in this chaos. When three brothers defeated their father, Kronos to get that throne of Olympus, all those three swore with their lives that they would never share the joy of having an offspring of their own. All those three had obeyed this oath until Percy was born. So, basically, Percy represented a clear violation of that oath that was broken by Poseidon. This fact along with the fact of stealing the lightning bolt had created a great inconsistency among the gods.

Hearing these words and the background of his life, he got so frustrated that he was ready to go to any extent to save his mother from that demon god Hades. So, he devised a plan. He told Chiron that he would go to Hades and would tell him that he did not steal that bolt and Hades would free his mother out of his honesty. Chiron got so angry that he put him in house arrest. Percy was desperate to save his mother. So, he sneaked out of that house and took Grover and Annabeth as his companions. He also took the magical sword “ Anaklusmos (Riptide) “ given to him by Chiron (Mr. Brunner) in that museum during that Fury incident and the flying boots of Luke Castellan. Then the three went on a crazy trip to find out the gateway of hell.

They encountered many hurdles and prominent monsters and demons like Medusa, Echidna, and Chimera. After crossing these freaks, they went to Los Angeles, Hollywood. From there they entered the Underworld kingdom to reach Hades. There they were shocked by listening that Hades’s helm was also stolen along with Zeus’s lightning bolt. Now the interesting fact was when Percy was about to go on this trip, the backpack that he was carrying all this time was given to him by Ares, the son of Zeus. So, when Hades checked Percy’s backpack, he found the lightning bolt and accused Percy and his group as a traitor. Realizing that they had been manipulated by Ares, they somehow managed to get out of the Underworld and Percy challenged Ares in a duel. As we all know, it doesn’t matter who fights who as long as one is a hero, the hero wins. So, Percy defeated Ares and returned the helm to Hades and due to Percy’s honesty, Hades releases Sally, Percy’s mother.

Percy went to Mount Olympus to return the bolt to Zeus. Zeus forgave Percy by not kill him as he was the mistake of Poseidon. When he returned to camp, he met Luke who revealed his true colors. Luke told Percy that it was actually him who stole those bolt and helm. Ares was just a pawn in the game who needed to be sacrificed. He did that on the words of Kronos. He also told Percy that the world had become weak, the leaders had become weak, they needed a more consistent and a powerful leader. He also gave Percy a chance to join them, but he refused. Out of anger, Luke tried to kill Percy with a scorpion. The scorpion stung him but he killed it. Due to its poison, he fainted. When he woke up he was given a choice to either move back to his school life or stay in the camp. After much thoughts, Percy chose to move back to his school life with his mother. Grover and Annabeth moved too, but they promised each other that they would stay in touch with one another.
